We are on the hunt for an Assistant Café Manager!

Excellent coffee is what we do, and a well-organised venue with a happy and motivated team is the foundation of this. Our diverse and passionate team is on the look out for someone with both barista and team supervisory experience, to support our Café Manager. We are looking for a new long-term member of the Villino team, who is passionate about coffee and providing a warm and friendly environment for our customers.

We are looking for a well-rounded industry professional, with proven supervising experience, and exemplary organisational and communication skills, to help support and build up our café team to bring our customers the best. The Assistant Manager is a key member of our café team, delivering exceptional customer service and food and beverage service in our daily operations. In addition to this, they assist our Café Manager with stock control, staff management, and quality control. This is a full time, salaried position.

ABOUT US

We currently operate three venues across Hobart: our original Villino Coffee cafe on Criterion Street, our takeaway window Ecru (also on Criterion Street), and our roastery cellar-door Wondr on Sunderland Street in Moonah. Specialty coffee is what we do, so we’re looking for people who share our passion, or are looking to learn more about what the top end of the coffee industry has to offer. 

As well as our three venues, we are a coffee roaster and wholesaler, and also run a Barista Training program out of our Roastery HQ. Our team currently consists of just over 20 coffee professionals, striving to embody our core values of excellence, community, and sustainability. We pride ourselves on being a diverse, inclusive, and safe workplace, and offer ongoing training for our team on the latest in all things coffee.

ABOUT YOU

  • Exceptional people skills, with a focus on both delivering excellent customer service, as well as building relationships within the team.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Barista, preferably in specialty coffee.
  • Experience in supervising, supporting, and motivating a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly organised, with great time management and prioritisation skills under pressure, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ideally, someone with a passion for coffee, and an enthusiasm to learn and grow into everything the specialty coffee industry has to offer.
  • Works well in a team, and enjoys a variety of tasks and responsibilities, such as:
    • Running the floor and till, and preparing drinks and food
    • Brewing delicious coffee to recipe, and maintaining a consistently high standard of quality for everything served throughout the day
    • Bringing good vibes, and establishing warm and friendly relationships with customers and co-workers
    • Keeping the team motivated throughout the day, and maintaining a high standard in the venue
    • Supporting the team, by responding to queries, troubleshooting, and supervising continued learning
    • Assisting the Manager with:
      • Managing inventory levels and re-ordering
      • Menu development and implementation
      • Managing and maintaining the POS system and troubleshooting issues as needed
      • Resolving any workplace conflicts that may arise
      • Rostering and timesheet supervision
    • Contributing to creating and reviewing operational procedures and policies, that drive improvement in our business.

FINAL DETAILS

This is a full time position available for an immediate start, with a salary of $70,000 (negotiable based on previous experience).

This is a daytime, five day a week role, which would be best suited to someone looking for either a Monday to Friday, or Tuesday to Saturday week. The ability to be flexible for occasional cover outside of your regular days would be an advantage. 

Having your own transport will be a plus, as we have some early starts and staff generally work between all of our three venues.
